Air Pollution & COVID-19 Susceptibility

In partnership with the University of Virginia and the University of California, Santa Barbara, CEGER is conducting research into the links between air pollution and COVID-19 susceptibility in Uganda. The study examines how exposure to particulate matter and other pollutants in urban and peri-urban environments may increase vulnerability to respiratory infections, including COVID-19.

Our field team has been responsible for data collection across Kampala and surrounding areas, employing air quality monitoring equipment alongside community health surveys. The research aims to produce evidence that informs both Ugandan public health policy and the broader international understanding of environmental determinants of health. Preliminary findings have contributed to academic publications and policy discussions on the intersection of environmental health and pandemic preparedness.
