John Wycliff Byona is a published independent researcher with more than 15 years of experience across the full spectrum of the research process. He holds a Master’s in Community Planning and Strategic Management from Ndejje University and a Bachelor of Urban Planning and Management from Makerere University, complemented by short courses in research methods and ethics, data management and analysis, and environmental protection.
He has worked alongside researchers from respected institutions in Uganda and beyond — including Brigham Young University, the University of California–Santa Barbara, Makerere University, and Mbarara University of Science and Technology — and has contributed to research published in the Pan African Medical Journal. His skills span project design and conceptualisation, questionnaire development, capacity building, data entry and analysis, qualitative and quantitative data analysis, case-study documentation, and report writing.
John has been engaged in more than forty donor- and government-funded projects across the agriculture, health, education, governance, democracy, finance, and media sectors, working with organisations such as Malaria Consortium, UN IOM, USAID, PACE Uganda, the Clinton Health Access Initiative, aBi Trust, the World Food Programme, and Baylor-Uganda. Having progressed from research assistant through supervisory and team-leadership roles to consultancy, he currently works with CEGER as a project manager — most recently leading fieldwork for a community waste-management initiative delivered in partnership with Wakiso District Local Government and Nansana Municipal Council.
